A people-powered day of music, theater, workshops, talks and games in celebration of workers' rights, sustainable living, and collective struggles for a better world.
Discussions include:
12pm May Day history, Mahoning Valley labor struggle history, and a paths towards (re)building a strong labor movement: Staughton Lynd and Werner Lange
1pm A crucial conversation: ”Why abolish the death penalty and years in solitary confinement?" With Alice Lynd
2pm Song-sharing and Round Robin: music for and by the people
3pm Fighting for fair elections: Ohio’s redistricting, League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown
4pm Keynote address: Staughton Lynd Alice & Staughton Lynd's background, see collections:

The Youngstown May Day Festival will also include:
Music with Jonathan Blackshire, Jen Cancio, Hooja 1856, the Frank Lev Group, and Matt Marton
Spring crafting with flower crown making, sage wand workshop, Maypole dancing, sidewalk chalk art, free pedicab rides to downtown and the Oak Hill voter polls, and free face painting
Tabling with many community groups and local DIY vendors including Plant Ahead, Oak Hill Collaborative, ACTION, Friends of the Mahoning River, Full Spectrum Community Outreach, CommonWealth, Trumbull Co. DSA, NE Ohio Medics, and Treez Please, among others.
Free seed giveaway and perennial plant swap (byo plants to share) as part of the launch of the Free Store, a community run space for gently used kitchen, garden, and home goods: bring things to share with the community, take things you need.
Covid-19 precautions will be in place.

Alice Lynd will have workshop on abolishing death penalty and years-long-solitary confinement practices - 1-2 PM
Sage wand making workshop at 1:30pm at the Youngstown May Day Festival. They will have herbs to pick from the Calvin Center garden and also encourage you to bring herbs to share (check online to make sure they're burnable).
There will be a huge seed and plant giveway and exchange. Bring any seeds you want to share and perennials that you can spare (divide up those hostas!) and come get some new life for your plant pots, garden, or yard.
